So its early on Sunday – I feel like the cloud across the sun. I head down to Bondi for a lovely breakfast and I am feeling pretty famished actually. I settle on the breakfast tasting platter but first a wake-me-up coffee.

The Breakfast Tasting Platter
Let me go through the savoury items:
Green Shakshouka (Eggs poached in a ragout of green tomatoes, green capsicum, spinach & chilli, served in a pan): A dreamy, thick, savoury, spicy, rich ragout intermingled with the softness of gelatine like egg white which spreads its wings in the dish and its partner in crime; the sticky runny yolk which provides the signature on this ultimate comfort food.
Turkish bread & hummus: The fluffy soft Turkish bread with the deep rustic taste of the hummus and chilli is a treat.
Corn Fritters with warm smoky tomato chutney, bacon, goat cheese & roquette: The crunchy corn fritters have a wonderful textural flow while the bacon injects a salt intensity into the dish. The rich juicy tomato chutney has a sweet flavour with the creamy balance of the goats cheese to balance the zest of the tomato.
Lets go through the sweets:
Mango & Lime Buttermilk Pancakes served with strawberries, lemon curd, double cream & Canadian maple syrup: The sweet sticky pancake dances with the sweetness of the strawberry, the richness of the cream and is keeps its feet on earth with the tartness of the lime and zesty lemon curd. Beautiful indeed.
Bircher Muesli with goji berries served with fresh fruit & honey yoghurt: The grainy muesli is perfect in texture, while the banana and apples are refreshingly fresh and the sweetness and lactic touch of the honey yoghurt holds it together.
Cinnamon & vanilla scented french brioche toast served with raspberry & apple compote: Soft fluffy “egg drenched” French toast fights with the crispness of the egg batter to provide a textural contrast. The gentle cinnamon and vanilla pervades the taste buds and the sweet streak of the compote adds some rich flavours to round out the dish.
