Sydney to Perth
Christmas in the Lounge
So its Christmas and I am off to Perth for the two days! I just love Christmas and as a Christian its one of the most important dates on my calendar.
I do love how Qantas puts a lovely touch on the lounge food at this time. The mince pies just get me into the mood!
The Seat
Pretty soon I kiss the lounge goodbye and I’m in the new Qantas Business Suite – Its oh so spacious!
Once I’m settled in and we have lift-off. The views jetting out of Sydney are simply stunning!
Eventually, I forget the things on my mind and I focus on the getting a good rest ahead of my short time in Perth
Wine
The wine of choice today is the Taylors “TWP” Blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc) from Clare Valley in South Australia. I enjoy it while watching the Minons Movie.
The wine is rich with delicate floral aromas mixed with cassis and light plums on the nose. On the palate the wine exudes rich flavours of blackcurrants, plum with a deep spice notes which flow into a long finish.
Tomato and Saffron Soup
The soup is full of rich tangy juicy tomatoes with the lovely elegant saffron touch to finish!
Seafood Bouillabaisse with Rouille
An interesting dish with pieces of fish, prawns and even whole mussels (something I haven’t experienced inflight before). A rich thick hearty soup with amazing seafood flavours which sing in harmonious fashion together. Its just such a unique dish to have in the sky. The mussels prove a little difficult to eat, but I do manage to not make a complete mess of it.
Cheese Platter with Accompaniments – Le Chevrac du Perigord (France) & Barbers Cheddar (Somerset, England)
The perfect way to finish lunch – rich creamy cheese washed down with the TWP. The Chevrac has a sensuous creamy flavour while the Cheddar is deep in flavour and crumbly in texture- a lovely dessert indeed.
The Bed
I then decide to take a nap for the rest of the flight and the bed was just oh so comfy.
Perth to Sydney
Business Lounge
So here I am in the new Qantas Business Lounge in Perth. It such an improvement to the old Qantas Club offering.
The bar is well set out with some lovely drops.
The cold cuts table include some festive Christmas Ham.
Antipasto plates by the main bar are a treat!
And oh yes, there is a Pizza Bar…
Seat
I am in my seat shortly after and we have lift-off.
Seared Tuna with Cannelini Bean, Cherry Tomatoes, Basil and Black Olive Tapenade
The soft jelly like tuna which its charred outer portion is a treat when accompanied with the rustic Mediterranean salad.
Roast Chicken Salad with Pearl Barley, Celery and Grapes with Blue Cheese Vinaigrette
The rich sauce and the clean cut chicken salad which is defined by its lightness and freshness.
Cheese Platter with accompaniments – Fourme d’Ambert (Normandy, France) and Barbers Cheddar (Somerset, England)
The Fourme d’Ambert proves to be mild with that lingering salty zing of the mould while the Cheddar was a carbon copy of the flight over. As a nice touch some Kennedy & Wilson Chocolates are provided – love these little touches by Qantas. The perfect way to end the Christmas break.
