Qantas Lounge (Perth)
So my time in Perth has come to an end and I am off to the airport for a leisurely trip back to Sydney… before I board a brief visit to the Qantas Lounge is in order – wine taste so much better when there is an airplane in the background!
Onboard – Qantas Airbus A330-200
Once on board I settle in my seat and enjoy watching episodes of Veep (Its such a funny sitcom)… soon we have the entrees being served.
I opt for the…
Asparagus, Soft Boiled Egg and Parmesan Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette and Sea Salt and Rosemary Grissini
I was greeted with the beautiful crunchy asparagus which were tinged with the tangy rich balsamic which was perfect for cutting through the creamy tartness of the Parmesan. The grissini offered a nice crumbly texture contrast to the dish. The menu did say soft boiled egg, however the texture of egg indicates it was well towards the hard boiled side. It wasn’t a major issue with the lovely jelly like egg white and crumbly yolk adding a lovely dimension to the salad. It was a nice start to the flight.
For the Main Course, I opt for the….
Roast Chicken, Couscous, Chickpea and Chargrilled Eggplant Salad with Aioli
The tender succulent chicken is delight with its juices and the salt from the skin creating a light but flavoursome tasting experience. The soft couscous and chickpeas were well integrated with the eggplant and beans. A wonderful mixture of textures and light flavours for a light lunch. The creamy aioli adds some thick richness to the dish to balance the lightness of the ingredients.
Then we are onto dessert and I opt for the…
Cherry and Dark Chocolate Trifle
The sour fruitiness of the cherries provide a wonderful hit which is complemented by the rich dark cocoa of the dark chocolate. The soft jelly and spongy base of the trifle provides a wonderful array of textures. The sponge and cream balances the sweetness of the fruit and jelly to provide a balanced tasting experience.
I opt for the same wine as I did for the trip over from Sydney the Leeuwin Estate ‘Prelude Vineyards’ Cabernet Merlot, Margaret River for all the courses. You can check out my review of that wine on the Sydney to Perth post here.
Landing
Eventually the setting sun of Australia’s east coast greats us through the window and we land safely in Sydney. In a year of tragedy for the aviation industry, I am always so grateful for a safe journey!
My thoughts and prayers with the families/friends of those who were lost in this year’s aviation disasters! Thanks to the Qantas staff for looking after me oh so well in 2014.
the meals are a whole different class!
