New York Days & Bar Masa

I Love this city

When you find yourself in NYC just for a day it is difficult to fully immerse yourself in the city knowing that you will be ripped away from it in a few days time. However this is where I find myself as I am in New York for just a few days before jetting over to Los Angeles. Here are some snaps of my day in New York.

Here is a snap outside the historic Waldorf Astoria Hotel. I stayed there a few years ago, it certainly has its history and grandeur.

The beauty of the MetLife Building is always a wonderful sight.

The front of Rockefeller Centre is beautiful to stop by and gaze at, the majesty of the building is so imposing and you always feel a sense of being lost in the moment.

The night lights and neon screens at Times Square always give that “NYC – city that never sleeps” kinda vibe and I can’t of think anything more New York than just walking through Times Square at night.

Bar Masa

I decide to have a leisurely lunch before I jet-off, so I head to Columbus Circle which has this stunning view out to Central Park and beyond. I am paying a visit to Bar Masa, the bar of the highly acclaimed Masa Restaurant for lunch.

I settle into my chair and select a lovely glass of wine to commence the lunch proceedings.

Chablis, “Terroir de Fye” Patrick Piuze (2015)

The Chablis releases the scent of pears and apples with an array of interesting floral notes on the nose. On the palate beautiful mix of pear, stone fruit and citrus flavours fill the palate with a stony rocky style minerality and acidity to balance. A nice buttery texture texture is noticeable a crisp finish. It’s fresh and perfect for the afternoon.

Miso Soup

The daily soup is a miso soup with mushrooms. The soup displays the mild miso flavours which is balanced with an unleashing on unami flavours to awaken the palate.

Omakase tasting (Sashimi)

The platter has Salmon, Yellow Tail, Snapper, Mackerel, Fluke and Tuna. The delicious fresh flavours of each fish are there in plain form uninterrupted by culinary interference. The distinct intense flavours of the salmon and tuna are a treat. The oily mackerel and yellow tail are lovely while the fluke and snapper exude a deceptively more milder taste which still evokes a salute from the taste buds. The lemony acidity of the Chablis is a perfect pairing for the platter and is a marriage made in heaven.

Thus lunch is over. I head back to my hotel (the lovely Le Parker Meridien) and make my way to the airport.
