London Trip Report & Video Diary (2021/2022)

The Video Diary

Here is our London Video Diary from our trip to London in December / January to celebrate the New Year and it was extra special in that it was our first overseas holiday after 20 months of COVID-19 border restrictions in Australia.

Music is London Town by Grace Parry. I do not own the rights to this song.

I’ve done some posts on our trip, but here is summary of the rest so you can plan your own adventures to London town now that international travel is back in full swing.

The Ritz London

I have loved the Ritz London and its such a beautiful place. So one of the first things we did was to have afternoon tea in the lavish Palm Court (which has since been under renovation). It’s quite an occasion with waiters in white coats serving quaint sandwiches, scones with cream and jam & pastries and cakes with Champagne and a selection of teas. As it was around Christmas, we had some beautiful festive versions of the pastries and cakes.

GŎNG Bar

We had some lovely sushi, edaame and tacos with some of the best views of London at GŎNG Bar on the top of the Shangri-La at the Shard. Definitely recommend doing a lazy lunch with cocktails and sushi over a weekend.

Fallow Restaurant

The thing I love most about London is the pre-theatre dining scene. We visited a beautiful restaurant, Fallow Restaurant which is focused on sustainable cuisine. I enjoyed a Dairy Cow Burger and Alex had the Plant Burger. I do recommend this spot if you want an excellent and fast pre-theatre snack.

Sketch

Sketch is one of my favourite spots in London, whether its a leisurely breakfast at the Parlour, afternoon tea at the Gallery or a regal dinner at the Lecture Room & Library. We had a beautiful dinner at the Lecture Room & Library to sample Pierre Gagnaire’s craftsmanship.

Alex opted for the Scottish Langoustines: Roasted Large Scottish Langoustine with Crispy Capers and Confit Meyer-Lemon Butter, while I opted for the Roe Deer: Roasted Scottish Roe Deer Saddle Perfumed with Juniper and Cumin with Potato Bilou with Ceps.

The Savoy

For our final night in London, we opted for dinner at the Savoy.

A world of trolleys, wine decantered with theatrical flair, a luxurious Beef Wellington with a velvety red wine jus, French fries with perfect salinity and crisp and the rocket and truffle salad which is refreshing as it is decadent. For this should be a daily routine. The perfect way to sign-off on our London adventure.
