Riomaggiore

So I find myself in the town of Riomaggiore. The colourful buildings, hidden stony pathways really define the town as well its beautiful open marina. Like all the other Riviera towns, the rocky cliff faces and crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean are a feature.

There are plenty of small tiny paths which would even frighten those slightly claustrophobic – I often wonder who these people move houses (there is no road access and these houses are on the cliff face). Moving a fridge must be a nightmare.

I eventually get to‎ the marina and survey my dining options in the area. I decide to be a little more rustic, casual and on the run today. I find a local fish & chip established and order a take-away cone of mixed calamari and white bait and take it close to the marina and find a flat piece of rock on the side of the marina and sit there admiring the view and devouring the crispy battered calamari – it’s a simple but truly enjoyable experience.

I then take a walk around the bay and find a secluded beach to chill. Amongst the rocks, the crystal clear waters there is a sense of tranquility and lostness that one finds. There are so few people here, but its such a beautiful location!

A Pie’ de Ma’

Next to the Riomaggiore Train Station and perched on a cliff (first photo below to the top right) is a beautiful bar with stunning views across the cliffs and rugged terrain of Riomaggiore. I choose to pay it a quick visit and enjoy a Aperol Spritz (oh how predictable) and a glass of lovely Italian wine. There was even a stranger at the bar who loved the view of my drinks on the backdrop and took a photo of it for his own collection.
