Qantas Business Class (Sydney to Perth)

I am off for the Christmas break after what has been a pretty busy year. I am heading back to Perth to see my family and today I’m traveling on Qantas beautiful A330 Business Suite.

The Suite

The suites, which all have aisle access, have great levels of privacy, convert into a fully flat bed, have a recline position for take-off and plenty of amenities to store personal belongings and power sockets for your laptops and phones. The inflight entertainment is quite extensive for a 4-5 hour flight and noise canceling headphones are provided for the journey.

We have the most beautiful views of the NSW coast as we make our way across the Nullabour to Perth.

Dinner

Salad of Tiger Prawns with Fargo, Green Olives, Orange, Pistachio and Herbs

The prawns are beautiful and succulent and the grainy texture of the farro and pistachio is a delight. There is a mix of salt and sweet in the salad which is quite refreshing. We are also served a beautiful sourdough with pepe saya butter to start and a leaf salad. I know it’s not quite a match, but I have a Barossa Shiraz to kick off proceedings.

Pappardelle with Rosetta Bolognase

The bolognese is full of juicy chunks of beef intertwined with a tangy tomato sauce. The pappardelle is al dente and holds the sauce together quite well while the melted cheese is the crown of this dish. It’s a rustic kinda comfort food – perfect for the journey. The wine is an excellent pairing for this dish.

Almond and Orange Cake with Double Cream

For dessert I opt for the cake which is a nice sugar hit to sign off for the evening. The texture of almond with the citrus rind of the orange is quite a sensation on the tongue as I navigate to avoid the richness of the cream in the middle.

The Bed

Eventually the flight, the wine and the year catch-up to me and I decide to have a nap before we land. The sunset views are stunning as I lay on this pretty comfortable bed as the evening turns to night.

Here is a short clip of the sunset views before I head to bed.

The beautiful background music is: ‘Sundream’ by Rüfüs. I do not own any rights to the song.

Finally I land in Perth after a decent flight and prepare for a relaxing break. It’s truly the most wonderful time of the year… I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope you take this moment to rest, celebrate with loved ones and remember and reflect on the reason for the season!

    1. Thank you! Yes I do like their food offering in the premium cabins. Their wine selection could be improved somewhat but it’s still quite decent! Have a Merry Christmas!
